It’s important to honor the timer, or the overwhelm will set back in. I don’t even think about reading until the next day. I felt accomplished that I completed my ten minutes. It is so important I don’t read another word until the next day.įor me, I needed to simplify this to fit it in my life so I would only focus 10 minutes a day on reading and stop. When the timer rings, I finish the paragraph and I STOP!.Set a timer for 11 minutes because it usually takes me a minute to get my book turned to the right page, etc.Wake up at 5 or 6am (I’m an early bird so this was no big deal).I put together a morning routine to help me start the day. Knowing I had to do something, I implemented the ‘Power of Ten’ in this task, which is applying ten minutes to reading every day. I had generated a pretty significant pile of books. I was stuck and couldn’t progress until I started to implement the Power of Ten, which is I pick two or three tasks, and I apply 10 minutes to those tasks every day.įor example, I was starting to collect a lot of books to read, someone would recommend a book, and I would buy it to read, but instead of reading the books, I just was collecting them. I love learning and improving my life, and one of the areas to do this is through constant education but with seven children, two businesses, two volunteer organizations, church stuff and then home tasks, I froze. Remember these are the projects that can be completed over time. Don’t forget to write down:Īfter you have written down your list of things you need to get done and put them in the proper column, circle three of the tasks in the ‘Gradual Project’ column. The reason to create this list is so you can identify gradual projects. You can think of this as a, ‘To Do List’ that will overwhelm you if you let it, but try not to. These things can be completed gradually because there’s no urgency.Ĭreate your list and put them in the proper column. The plumbing project is a project that you can’t stop once you get started.Īn example of, ‘Gradual Progress Projects’ would be yard clean up, reading books, writing, laundry, dishes, etc. Once you start fixing plumbing issues, unless you’re not using the water or any facilities, you need to finish it, or you will be without water. Here’s an example of, ‘Can’t Stop Once Started Project’, plumbing. I understand this may feel overwhelming but in the end you’ll be glad you did this. Literally, write everything you can think of down in one of these columns. Now you’re going to write down a list of all of the things that you would like to get done, be expansive. On top of the column on the right-hand side, write the word ‘ Can’t Stop, Once Started Projects‘ and on the left-hand side ‘ Gradual Progress Projects.’ Get an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper (standard paper) and either fold it vertically to give you two 4.25 x 11 columns or draw a line down the center so that you have two columns.Īgain, you can do this by drawing a line down the center of the paper or folding the paper hotdog style (going back to elementary education).
